The 32nd Session of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe
The 32nd Session of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe was held in Strasbourg on 28-30 March 2017. The study visit for representatives of the state regional media such as the Agency «Minsk- News», Brest regional newspaper «Zarya», newspapers «Gomelskaya Pravda», «Nasha Talachynshchyna», «Grodzenskaya prauda», «Information Agency «Mogilev News» was organized with support of the Council of Europe Information Point in Minsk.
Within the framework of the three-day session of the Congress the issues on the role of local and regional authorities facing migration, the implementation of the European Charter of Local Self-Government, the quality of democratic participation at the regional level, developments in the sphere of human rights at the local and regional levels, the fight against anti-Gypsyism were considered. Background information: The Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe is a pan-European political assembly, representing local and regional authorities from 47 member countries. Its role is to promote local and regional democracy, to improve local and regional governance and strengthen authorities' self-government. It pays particular attention to application of the principles enshrined in the European Charter of Local Self-Government. The Congress encourages the devolution and regionalisation processes, as well as transfrontier co-operation between cities and regions.
