CONFERENCE “DRUG POLICY IN EUROPE”

On the 29 of June 2016 Minsk hosted the conference, organized by the Council of Europe Cooperation Group to Combat Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking in Drugs (the Pompidou Group) and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Belarus with the support of the Council of Europe Information Point in Minsk.

 

The event took place in the International Training Centre on migration and combating trafficking in human beings of the Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Belarus.

The representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Belarus, the State Customs Committee of the Republic of Belarus, the State Committee of forensic examinations of the Republic of Belarus, the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Belarus, representatives of the Secretariat of the Pompidou Group and international experts took part in the conference.

The participants discussed general drug situation in Europe, drug control policy and the emergence of new psychoactive substances on the European market, familiarized with the legal regulation to combat illicit trafficking in drugs both at the national and international level. The issues of rehabilitation and social adaptation of drug users and people released from prisons and the prevention of drug use among young people were also on the agenda.

Jan Malinowski, Executive Secretary of the Pompidou Group, noted that at present the Council of Europe's Pompidou Group had positive experience of cooperation with Belarus in monitoring of possible movement of drugs through airports. Drug market is fast-moving right now and it’s crucial to hear every State and to take into consideration positive experience of its work in future.
