Rigoni emphasized the importance of resuming dialogue between PACE, Belarus

According to reports by the Belarusian Telegraph Agency (25 February 2015, Minsk / Ekaterina Markovich - BelTA), Andrea Rigoni, rapporteur of the PACE Committee on Political Affairs and Democracy, said that it is important to resume the dialogue between the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) and Belarus, as he met with Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Vladimir Andreichenko.

Andrea Rigoni thanked the Belarusian side for the organization of the visit and remarked that the previous visit of the rapporteur of the Council of Europe took place five years ago. It is a very important event for our organization because it means that we are resuming a dialogue. I sincerely hope for cooperation, he emphasized.

The rapporteur noted that the PACE is the oldest organization not only in Europe but also in the world. It unites 47 countries. “I call it the big Europe from Reykjavik to Vladivostok. Frankly speaking, it is unclear to me why Belarus is not a member of the Council of Europe. If we look at the geographical map, we will see that Belarus is in the center of the big Europe, and its absence in the organization can be viewed as a lacuna on the geographical map of Europe. So, we are here because we would like to have a clear picture about the situation,” Andrea Rigoni stressed (see http://eng.belta.by/all_news/politics/Rigoni-It-is-important-to-resume-dialogue-between-PACE-Belarus_i_79868.html ).
