Multilateralism 2020: Annual Report of the Secretary General of the Council of Europe

The annual report of the Secretary General of the Council of Europe Ms Marija Pejčinović Burić “Multilateralism 2020” was presented in June 2020.

The report contains information on the organisation’s response to the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020 and the results of the Council of Europe’s actions since the Helsinki Ministerial Meeting in May 2019.

The report details the Council of Europe’s guidance to member states during the pandemic including the so-called toolkit designed to help ensure that measures taken by member states during the crisis remain proportionate to the threat posed by the spread of the virus and are limited in time.

Besides that, the Secretary General underlined the need for further reforms and highlighted gender equality, the fight against hate speech and hate crimes and artificial intelligence as priorities of the organisation.

Online event on results of the PGG II

The MEDICRIME Convention ratification

On 28 September 2020 the Republic of Belarus has deposited the instrument of ratification of the Council of Europe Convention on the counterfeiting of medical products and similar crimes involving threats to public health (hereafter – MEDICRIME Convention). The MEDICRIME Convention will enter into force for Belarus on 1st January 2021.
